A day at the Lernhaus

Seven reliable stations.

From arrival to closing circle — the day has structure without being a stopwatch. Each learning group follows the same rhythm, with small variations on certain days.

07:45Arrival

Arrival & breakfast

Children arrive between 7:45 and 8:15, hang up jackets, change into house slippers, have breakfast at the shared table — or outside under the porch when weather allows.

08:30Group

Morning circle

About 25 minutes per learning group. We discuss the day, hear children's reports, read a piece from a book or research topic. A reliable start that gives every child a voice.

09:00Morning

Free work & lessons

90 minutes of focused work. Children choose materials from open shelves. Teachers observe, document, run targeted small-group lessons where needed.

10:30Outside

Forest or farmyard time

90 minutes outside, every day. In the forest behind the farmstead or with the animals. In rain: rain gear, drying room, change of clothes on site.

12:00Meal

Shared lunch

Cooked fresh daily, much from our own garden, all from the region. One table per learning group, always with teachers, always with a tablecloth.

13:00Workshop

Workshop, research time, or quiet time

Three options depending on day and need: workshop half-day, research project, or quiet time in the reading room for those who need calm after lunch.

14:30Closing

Closing circle

20 minutes per group. We hear what was good, what was hard, what's next. A song, sometimes a sentence from a book — and they leave, often with a stone, a stick, or a leaf in their pocket.

Variations across the week

What changes regularly.

Forest day · Wednesday

Once per week per group, a full day outside — 9:00 to 14:00 in the school forest. With backpack lunch, tools, and a fixed group spot.

Workshop · Friday

Friday is workshop day. Full morning in one of four workshops — six-week rotation, each child rotates through all four in one school year.

Project week · per term

Twice per school year a project-week (e.g. „Water in the Bavarian Forest", „Bread — from grain to loaf"). Across learning groups, with parent involvement.
